August 5th, 2012 – Jesus Sets the Stage

I feel very prompted to let all reading this blog know that this is not meant to glorify satan and his fallen angels. God used these experiences to draw me near to Him, God’s power was glorified through these events. He showed me that He had evil on a leash and there was nothing that could harm His people, He is sovereign. Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”.

I was on my way home from work about 8pm when I received a call from Steven. He asked if I would pick him up and bring him to a hotel for the evening. He was having thoughts of hurting his roommates in a greater way than ever and asked if I would bring him to stay in a hotel for the night. I picked Steven up and brought him to a hotel near my house, I was thinking I would be able to get to him quickly if he needed me…. little did I know I was nowhere near mature enough in my faith for what was going to happen.

From the entire time Steven and I were together he seemed like his old normal self. There was no signs of any demonic affliction. Before I left the hotel room I wanted to pray for a safe night for Steven. I was sitting on the bed and he was sitting on the table just across from me, I begin to pray. After a 30 second prayer I lift my head up and see Steven with his head tilted down glaring at me, you could see the change in his eyes. Steven says, “Travis, you need to go.”, at this moment I realized that I was in over my head and did not have the needed training to deal with a demon.  I left, knowing what I know now I would have stayed and bound the spirit and continued ministering to Steven but this was the most terrifying moment of my life at the time. Ephesians 6: 13-17 – “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”(Side note: There is no reason to be afraid of the enemy but it is never safe to try and actually deliver someone of a spirit totally alone.).

Frantic, I called the pastor we were to meet the next morning asking what to do. His reply….”Pray, let Our Heavenly Father take care of Steven until tomorrow morning.”, so that is what we did. Looking back, if this same situation arose today I would have had no problem comfortably dealing with the situation through God’s protection and wisdom.

I received a call later that night from Steven, he apologize for the situation that happen in the hotel room. He explained to me that the moment I began praying he was doing everything in his power to hold the demon back from lunging onto me in hopes to stop the praying. He felt seconds away from choking me. WOW!! That shows the hatred of the enemy and the power of prayer.

August 2nd, 2012 – The Enemy in Action

I hadn’t thought much about my conversation with Steven the week before, I was able to shake the affect it had on me fairly quick. The night of August 2nd started out like any typical night, it all changed with a phone call from my friend Steven at 3am. He called me completely terrified stating that he found himself walking barefoot down the middle of the road with a barbecue poker inhand thinking he was looking for someone to inflict injury upon (Thank you to God’s sovereignty, he kept the neighborhood off the street during those times.). He said his mind was taken over and was being controlled, as he snap out of it he was able to battle the thoughts that were influencing him. My brother and I headed over to Steven’s house and arrived at 5am that morning. We prayed with him realizing that the issues he was dealing with was demonic. As Steven tries to pray, the words don’t come out. He states that his tongue feels as if it is being bound, he is screaming in his head but the prayer doesn’t physically come out. As my brother and I continue to pray for our Lord Jesus Christ’s guidance, Steven’s demeanor and voice changes and under his breath we hear repeatedly… “I’m going to kill you”. Whatever spirit that is afflicting him is angry and showing itself. At this point we realize that we are in over our heads and setup an appointment with a colleague of my brothers that has dealt with this type of ministry. Didn’t sleep too well that night, I couldn’t get that experience out of my head. Little did I know, God was going to use me in a much bigger way. Amen!

July 23rd, 2012 – The Journey Begins

To set the stage for this story I need to give you some background info. I was raised in Stillwater, MN and would have considered myself a lukewarm Christian. I was confirmed and attended church camps like most of my friends but never understood what it actually meant to have a relationship with Our Savior. My life was consumed by my clothing company and the mission of financial success, life was great and I thought it was perfect. I had no idea I was missing the most important piece. Let the journey begin!

After a night at a festival with my buddy Steven (fake name btw) I noticed that he wasn’t himself and there was something depressing him. I finally got to asking him what was wrong as we pulled into his driveway, we sat for hours as I learned a whole new side to Steven. He spoke of an emptiness he felt that could only be filled by the love of a woman. He also brought to my attention that he believed he was struggling with demonic influence in his life. When he was in college he started seeking the ability to read people’s minds and was an active participant in the trainings and rituals that would lead to it. Steven recalled a time in class when he could hear the thoughts of his classmate to the right and commented on the thoughts he was hearing . The classmate was obviously disturbed considering they have never spoken to each other and the thoughts he was hearing was extremely intimate. Later on, Steven recalls being in the bathroom of a Waffle House looking in the mirror accepting his new gift and everything that comes with it. That was the beginning of his ties with the enemy. Since then, Steven had struggled with strong thoughts of hurting himself and others. Thoughts with the strength that could only come from the demonic.

Trust me, this was by far one of the most disturbing conversations I have every had. I have been terrified of anything demonic, I closed my eyes and plugged my ears during movie previews of “The Exorcist”. This was day one of the most terrifying month of my life. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ, without you I would have never made it through the coming trials.
